Ballet competitions have placed me in high-performance environments that constantly challenge my physical discipline and artistry. They push me to refine technique, precision, and expression while learning from other dedicated dancers.
I’ve been dancing contemporary for more than five years. Having first trained in jazz and modern dance, transitioning into contemporary expanded my sense of movement — introducing fluidity, freedom, and personal interpretation beyond classical form. Through dance, I’ve come to understand how the body itself can tell stories of resilience, emotion, and change.

I took classes with the Beijing Modern and Contemporary Dance Company from 2021-2022 and got to perform at several occasions including in the Zhongshan Park Music Hall . I learnt through my time there that dance can be abstract and have no boundaries.
“ Exploring rhythm, leadership, and empathy through movement. ”
Dance has become a space where I explore collaboration, leadership, and the power of expression. Whether performing under bright stage lights or guiding a team through rehearsals, I’ve learned that movement can connect communities, inspire confidence, and make a difference.
Since freshman year, I’ve been part of Bluefire, our school’s premier dance team that celebrates creativity and teamwork. Bluefire has given me the chance to explore a wide range of styles — from cheer and hip-hop to jazz and folk dance — while also choreographing my own original contemporary routines for our annual showcases.
As co-captain of the 2025–26 team and a former leadership member, I’ve co-coached and mentored over 20 dancers (grades 9–12), leading weekly technique sessions and preparing performances for school assemblies and pep rallies. Directing four major shows for 400+ spectators, I’ve discovered how dance can unify a community through shared rhythm and spirit.

In 2024–25, I was selected as 1 of 10 dancers from over 30 auditionees to represent my school on the APAC Dance Team — a collaborative platform that brings together dancers from international schools across the Asia-Pacific region.
Our team traveled to Manila, Philippines, where we engaged in intensive choreography labs, masterclasses, and cross-school performances. Collaborating with peers from 12 schools, we co-created and performed The Apocalypse, a contemporary fusion piece exploring unity and transformation. The experience deepened my appreciation for cultural exchange and artistic storytelling beyond national borders.

At Renee International Arts Center, I trained over four years, rehearsing ten hours per week to perform iconic roles such as one of the fairies in Sleeping Beauty and the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz. These annual 400+ seat charity performances, produced in partnership with Morning Star and New Hope Foundations, raised funds for life-saving surgeries for many children.
Each performance reaffirmed my belief that art holds the power to heal — not only through beauty and discipline, but through the compassion it can awaken in others.

BEHIND THE SCENES
It did not take me long to realize that I was not naturally blessed with the best arches, turnout, flexibility, and strengths for a dancer. Hence, I had to train with extra effort to achieve and acquire the skills that I have today.
Unfortunately, risks and injuries are unavoidable as a dancer. However, I accept the ups and downs that are a part of my dancing journey and will not let them get in the way of my improvement. Dancing is physically demanding and can takes years to master, which is why I’m very proud of how far I’ve come.
Moreover, with academic pressure increasing as I get older, many of my peers have chosen to give up dance. I am of the only few who still continue to dance competitively in my age group.
