SOCIAL JUSTICE

My work in social justice begins with my desire to see positive change in my community and the world. From advocating for gender equity to volunteering for animal welfare, I hope to raise my voice and take action for those in need.

01. ISB WeForShe Club

At the intersection of wellbeing and gender equality, I help lead WeForShe, my school’s gender advocacy organization. As one of the executive members, I organized regular charity bake sales to raise money for girls in rural China, initiated collaborations with school counsellors, and hosted discussions with 20+ students on arising issues and raising awareness.

I also participated in “Spike Against Cancer,” a campaign that raised ¥5,000—four times the previous year’s total—to fund breast cancer research and surgery. Moreover, I was a part of the planning team for "Together in October", a school-wide event that focused on community and belonging through activities, giveaways, and open sessions. In addition, WeForShe also provides free hygiene products in middle school and high school restrooms and promote inclusivity through social media outreach. Together, we turned small acts of care into lasting change for girls on campus.

02. What If — A Solo Dance Capturing Identity, Expectations, and Self

What if every label you’ve worn began to fall away?

“What If” is a self-choreographed dance piece confronting the inherited roles of “good daughter,” “good wife,” and “good mother.” Through an interplay of contemporary dance and particle-born silhouettes, the work visualizes how societal expectations and standards entangle the female body and how movement can become an act of rebellion.

03. Dancing in Chains — Body-Image Anxiety Expressed Through Dance, Film, and Art

How do you heal when your reflection becomes your cage?

“Dancing in Chains” is a short film that transforms body-image anxiety into art and awareness. I choreographed and performed a solo piece bound by chains to reflect the silent struggles of female dancers. Alongside it, I created a chain-bound booklet, a stop-motion animation, and conducted statistical research on dancers’ eating patterns. Through movement and videography, the project redefines beauty and the body not as restriction, but as strength and self-acceptance.

04. ISB Roots & Shoots Animal Branch

As a member of ISB’s Roots & Shoots Animal Branch, I advocate for animal welfare through organization and action. Our team of 20+ students participated in volunteer work, fundraisers, and adoption campaigns to improve the lives of stray animals in our community. I helped organize annual donation drives and partnered with Rain Animal Shelter, where I cared for over 20 cats and dogs while promoting adoption. Through these experiences, I’ve learned that advocacy and change begins with small, consistent acts of compassion.
